AUTOMATED SPEED CAMERA ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM
Q: Are Photo
Safety Enforcement Programs effective?
A: Yes. Red Light
cameras have been proven to be effective in reducing Red Light Camera
Violations and right-angle collisions. Cities
using this system consistently report safer roads with fewer collisions.
Q: Why are cameras used?
A: According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety red
light running is a leading cause of urban crashes and often causes injury and
death. Cities install the system to
improve public safety by deterring red light running.
Q: Who
receives the ticket?
A: Complaints are mailed to the registered owner of the
vehicle.
Q: Will “points” be assessed
to my driving record?
A: This
violation is considered a non-moving violation and no points will be assessed.
Q. If I am already in
the intersection when a light turns red, will I get a violation?
A: No. Violations are only issued when a vehicle
enters the intersection AFTER the light has turned red. If you enter the intersection on a green or
yellow light you will not be photographed by the camera system.
Q. How can I dispute this violation?
A: THERE ARE
The
ticket is not subject to discretionary reduction. You cannot plead to a lesser offense, and the
fine cannot be reduced.
(1) You may contest the imposition of this fine
by signing and mailing the coupon on the bottom of the reverse side of the
citation to request an appearance before the Nassau County Traffic and Parking
Violations Agency. Your request must be
received by the Due Date stated on the front of the Notice. Upon receipt, you will be notified of the
date, time and location of your Hearing.
(2) If the basis of your claim is that your
vehicle/plate was stolen or you received a ticket from a police officer, you
may complete an Affidavit of Non-Responsibility and
attach a certified copy of the police report or a copy of the ticket. Your
affidavit and supporting documentation will be reviewed and will result in
either dismissal of this violation or scheduling of an administrative
hearing. You will be notified in writing
of any action taken.

IF YOU ARE RENTAL CAR
COMPANY send a copy of the rental lease identifying the driver within thirty (30)
days of the Issue Date along with the copy of the Notice to: Nassau County,
TPVA, Red Light Camera Division, P.O. Box 22091, Tempe, AZ 85285-2091.
Be advised that a Transfer of Liability will not prevent vehicle from being
towed and/or booted.
Q.
Can I receive citations for other offenses as a result of my red light
camera?
A:
No. Drivers who receive photo enforcement
citations are cited for Red Light Camera Violations only.
Q. How do I pay my fine?
A: There are 4 ways to pay your fine:
ONLINE PAYMENT: The fastest and
easiest way to pay your fine is to pay online.
Go to www.DriveSafelyInNassau.com
and logon with your Notice # and PIN shown in the red box on the front of the
notice. Click the Pay button. A $6.00 convenience / service fee will be
added for this service.
PAYMENT BY PHONE: Call toll free 1-855-571-5134 available 24
hours a day, 7 days a week. A $6.00 convenience / service fee will be added for
this service.
PAYMENT BY MAIL: Mail your check
or money order (payable to Nassau County, NY) in the envelope that was enclosed
with your notice with the remittance coupon printed at the bottom of the
notice. DO NOT MAIL CASH. Be sure to print the Notice # on the face of your
check or money order.
PAYMENT IN PERSON: You may pay in person by check or money order at
the Nassau County Traffic and Parking Violations Agency, 16 Cooper Street,
Hempstead, NY 11550, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 AM and
4:00 PM EST. Visit www.nassaucountyny.gov/tpva for additional information and hours. A convenience fee will be assessed for each
credit card payment.
VIEW YOUR IMAGES AND
VIDEO: The recorded images and video of your violation will be submitted as evidence
in the Traffic and Parking Violations Agency proceeding for disposition of the
violation. You may view your images and
video online at www.DriveSafelyInNassau.com. You will need your Notice # and PIN shown in
the red box on the front of the notice. If you do not have internet access, you
may view your video and images at the Nassau County Traffic and Parking
Violations Agency, 16 Cooper Street, Hempstead, NY 11550.
Your payment must be received on or
before the due date shown on the front of your Notice of Liability. If you have any
