AUTOMATED SPEED CAMERA ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM

 

 

Q: Are Photo Safety Enforcement Programs effective?

A:  Yes.  Red Light and Photo Speed cameras have been proven to be effective in reducing red light violations and right-angle collisions.  Cities using these systems consistently report safer roads with fewer collisions.

 

Q:  Why are cameras used?

A:  According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety red light running is a leading cause of urban crashes and often causes injury and death.  Cities install the system to improve public safety by deterring red light running.

 

Q: Who receives the ticket?

A:  Complaints are mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle.

 

Q:  Will “points” be assessed to my driving record?

A:  This violation is considered a non-moving infraction and no points will be assessed.

 

Q.  How can I dispute this citation?

A:  If you wish to dispute this Notice of Infraction, fill out the coupon on the bottom back of the notice and make sure the mailing address is showing in the envelope window.  You will receive your a Hearing Notification in the mail that will include your hearing date and time.

 

Q. Can I receive citations for other offenses as a result of my red light camera or mobile speed van infraction?

A:  No.  Drivers who receive photo enforcement citations are cited for red light or speed violations only.

 

Q.  How do I pay my fine?

A:  There are 4 ways to pay your fine:          

1.  BY MAIL: Send a check or money order in U.S. funds, payable to King County District Court, for the AMOUNT DUE shown on the front of the notice, by the DUE DATE. Please include the payment coupon with your payment. Write your Notice # on your check or money order. PLEASE DO NOT MAIL CASH.

 

 

2.  ONLINE: Visit the King County District Court website:

3.  IN PERSON: Pay at the King County District Court Office nearest you between 8:30 AM — 4:30 PM, Monday — Friday. (Cash, Check)

 

4.  BY TELEPHONE: Pay by Credit Card only by calling 1-877-816-3530, use Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover and pay a small convenience fee of $5.75.

Q.  What is the Refund Policy?

A:  All Refunds will be handled through the Court.
